A client with a culinary bent required a high capacity hood, but did not want an industrial feel. MEH collaborated with the client and created detailed shop drawings for this statement piece that leverages a cedar wrap and the unifying side shelves.
While not obvious in the photographs, working with the imperfect nature of the existing 9’ ceilings required several rounds of reinforcement and support to ensure clean visual lines. Value engineering occurred by matching the backsplash, countertops and island countertops to fully utilize the quartz slabs.
Compound miters are a particularly difficult cut to execute as seen on the cedar hood wrap. Floating shelves that maintain structural load without visible supporting hardware were necessary to keep the clean aesthetic.
