Kitchen Transformation with Space Constraints
Client with no personal design expertise asked a designer to create an initial concept. MEH was asked to extend and elevate the design in this Eastover townhome. Client wanted to create an eat-in-kitchen in the space to accommodate weekly bridge game.
Space constraints were addressed by breaking space into 3 zones: kitchen, breakfast room and pantry. A clipped ceiling created by a staircase leading to the next level required detailed engineering and design to fit a built-in refrigerator. Ventilation of the range hood proved particularly challenging within the constraints of the space.
By enlarging an existing bi-hinged door opening to the dining room, visual space was gained allowing an open feel while maintaining privacy when needed. The result was ability to entertain a growing family of children and grandchildren.
