To execute such a dramatic entryway, multiple details needed to be planned to work in conjunction with the custom door being custom build off site.

Given the scope, a custom door manufacturer could not be utilized. Due to the weight of a 6’ custom wood pivot door, MEH sourced a German designed and built pivot hinge from Frits Jurgens. Dozens of shop drawings were created to evaluate feasibility and successfully execute this part of project.

While the door weighs nearly 1,000 pounds, it needed to be balanced perfectly so that anyone could utilize it. The pivot cylinder demanded perfectly plumb in 360 degrees. Even a 10th of a degree deviation would be a dramatic impact on usability.
